Environmental Photography

Environmental Photographs are always something I like to look at, but I don't like to take them. This assignment took me out of my comfort zone and gave me a chance to try different things out.

Here are a few environmental photographs I have taken. I am hoping to work on getting better at environmental soon.

News Photography

News Photography is something that happens all around us. I found this assignment to be fairly easy, because here at Point Park something is happening everyday. Here are a few shoots I took from an International Night here at Point Park. The night was filled with food, crafts, and music.

Here is another event I attended this year. Here in Pittsburgh St. Patrick's day is a big deal. I attended the parade and here are a few images from the event.

Feature story Photography

I found a great opportunity to take some photographs while on a drip to Washington D.C.  There was a man giving tours and explaining how he was in the Korean War. He also explained how his face was on the wall and how he met the artists the developed this memorial. It was a great story with millions of different ways to capture the moment. Here are a few photographs from that assignment.

Spot News Photography

Recently in Pittsburgh there has been many Union battles that have been resulting in various Protests. This is just one protest that I caught.

This was something that happened while I was in class. In class we could hear people yelling. I ran down to the street to find them walking up the Boulevard of the Allies.

This is great spot news because it captures the feeling of the moment. These people are standing up for something they believe in and this doesn't happen everyday.

Sports Photography

Steel City Derby Demons is one of my favorite things to photograph. Like many sports you never know what is going to happen, but especially with this hard hitting ladies. Every match is a new vengeance and its something you don't want to miss. Here are a couple of photographs from various bouts I attended this spring semester. I tried to capture the aspect of motion in each photograph. I feel that is an aspect that can be missed with fast shutter speeds.  The other great aspect of roller derby is the personalties of each player. This is high energy, high impact, and out of control fun.
This is an event I recommend everyone attend at least once to try something new and exciting the world of sports photography.

Another event that has been exciting to photograph would be basketball. Here at Point Park we have a mens and women's team that is actually pretty good and exciting to watch. Here are a few photographs that I took from various games I attended this season.  For basketball it is easy to miss great photographs with a slower camera. I know this because I have a hard time shooting with my nikon d40, but I found loop holes in making a good photograph. These are just two examples of how I can make it work with the equipment that I have.
